Ammar Academy, was founded in the year 2017, with one teacher and four students in the NWICC Masjid’s Kitchen. Later, it was formalized with parent Board Members during the year 2018 and has been successfully serving the community since its inception with All mighty Allah’s Mercy and the great support from our Board Members and Volunteers.

The purpose of choosing the name Ammar for this Quran Academy is, Ammar ibn Yasir ibn Amir ibn Malik Abu al-Yaqzan, one of the Muhajirun of Islam, is known for his devotion to this religion. He’s considered to be one of the most beloved companions of the Prophet, which is why he occupies a high position in Islam. The name Ammar means “builder or one who maintains and cares for something”. It also means ‘one who is hardworking and conscientious’. This keeps us reminding all the time to strive towards building a beautiful Islamic community with great virtues and values as preached by our beloved prophet Muhammad (May Allah’s peace be upon him).

Islamic studies also focus on monotheism, the tenet that there’s one and only one all-powerful God. They teach the attributes of this God, and the connection between God and Islamic law. Sometimes students also learn about the Muslim religion through stories. These may be stories about prophets or other important figures. And students learn about the history of Islam and Muslim culture.

There’s lots of focus on helping students build and cultivate their Islamic identity. Students learn about Islamic traditions and beliefs. This can help students understand their religion and heritage. Students learn and interact with peers with similar backgrounds, interests, and values. This helps them form close relationships, and feel part of a community.
